NH Restaurateur Addresses Congress on Health Care Law

Tom Boucher, CEO and owner of Great New Hampshire Restaurants Inc., testified before a congressional committee Thursday about the impact of 2010 health care law on his industry.

Boucher addressed the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health during a hearing examining the law’s impact on jobs.

Boucher told members of Congress the law poses costly challenges for employers and without modifications may sacrifice jobs. He said the National Restaurant Association has worked toward implementing the regulations.

“Nevertheless, there are limits to what can be achieved through the regulatory process alone,” he said, according to a news release. “Changes in the law are needed given the challenges employers such as restaurant and food service operators face in implementing it.”

Boucher’s restaurants include several T-Bones and Cactus Jack’s in New Hampshire as well as the Copper Door in Bedford.

Among the industry’s concerns are the time the law allows companies to make a transition to the new requirements as well as how full-time work is defined.
